Welcome, all potential applicants.

Please post your wish to apply as a developer under this thread.

This thread will be edited very often to reflect the status of things and current topics at hand.

Currently, we are in Phase Zero. List of topics and things to be done is as follows:

  • Identify all potential applicants

  • See their skill level, available time and other availability issues

  • Things to be done on my end are :

  • Maintain all security details on the server

  • Relearn all relevant things on maintaining the server and granting additional access to it

  • Identifying the current issues plaguing the site's code base and what needs to be done by the team, compiling a list and so on

  • Assessing the team's capabilities and contributing as another member on the team as time allows

  • Feel free to ask questions, raise suggestions and make criticisms.

Please refrain from shitposting or insults and remain on topic in this thread. The thread will be monitored and pruned routinely for efficiency, visibility and productivity.

Shitposting should be directed to >>>/ef/

So, here's the informal list of things that I think that needs to be done in the future.

Having an actually present tech team, setting up a test site to test out future changes to the code, looking at the current code base and deciding which cobebase to use as well as whether we should update the existing one or prune and do an entire do-over.

I am less pissed at people overall, so I am going to try to get it to you guys to actually look over it as fast as I can. But as mentioned, real life obligations and laziness, so priority will be on trying to get people access to the server and the codebase. And then we'll see if I'd have enough time, skill and willingness to regularly contribute and maintain.

Although I'm still extremely green about tech support, having others like Spark and Deltau would help me understand things a bit better, then after awhile if they either are absent or leave, I can step in to take care of any issues to come up in the future.
Being able to see what I'd be tinkering with would be extremely beneficial.

Here's a very rough idea on what kind of stuff I or anyone else wanting to get this shit going needs to know.

    >overall knowledge on SSH, good security practices, how to remotely access a server, using a command line interface(no, you don't get a pretty GUI), knowing basic CLI commands

    >overall knowledge on GNU/Linux/Unix OS
    >overall knowledge on how a website is hosted on a server
    >knowledge in PHP, JavaScript and/or CSS
    >software specific shit like databases and other server-side software efchan currently depends on(I have since forgotten, but there's quite a few software running on the server doing their thing to make your shitposting possible on a daily basis)

Not that I am even close to qualifying for all of the above.

I need to first retrace myself and remember what I did when we first set it up with Macil. I left a lot of loose ends and it might not end up being salvageable in its current incarnation. Which is not a bad news at all, we really don't have anything worth archiving here.

    >inb4 half the people volunteering volunteer just to try to see IPs or edit their posts
    >inb4 most of those can't figure out how to do it

It is a good day to be behind 7 firewalls by default.

There's a reason I am trying to stay around and check up on people doing unscrupulous shit. As well as screening applicants and making it visible to everyone.

It would be a good idea for those who want to apply to tell what they are proficient with and/or have experience at.

I code websites from the ground up so I'm fairly familiar the obvious HTML and CSS, have worked with Javascript and PHP, and sometimes manage server-side so have a bit of knowledge on how the actual server of a site beyond the FTP actually looks. Also wrote XML databases in an AS3 course once.

I'm no Macil or BB, but I'm confident that with already a few year's experience I can make things work here.

I'm familiar with GNU/Linux, SSH, and the unix terminal. I've managed game servers for both myself and some friends in the past, so I know how this sort of shit is usually done. I'm not too knowledgable in javascript, but I do understand HTML pretty well and I've been reading up on vichan over the last few days.

I took CSIII in college, pretty sure that makes me an expert.

But seriously, I understand computers and I generally understand code. I have experience tinkering and working with websites and computers in general, including Unix based systems.

I would be taking this primarily as a learning experience, I am sure I could pick up on things quickly, but I haven't done anything like this before. Still, it would be good experience, something I could put on my resume as well and maybe get a real actual job someday.

So basically, I'm smart enough and have enough compooter knows to figure things out, but don't make me like primary tech guy in charge of everything from day one lol.

    ID: c2993 No.622

I can make the website bubble sort lists, but probably best not to put me in charge of things like, say, security. You know, useful and important things.

    >overall knowledge on SSH, good security practices, how to remotely access a server, using a command line interface(no, you don't get a pretty GUI), knowing basic CLI commands
I know that SSH is a thing which makes browsers more secure and we will use it for security.
I used telnet once, I think that remotely accesses servers.
I am very skilled at using apt to install GUIs

    >overall knowledge on GNU/Linux/Unix OS

I installed Mint once and didn't break everything

    >overall knowledge on how a website is hosted on a server

A website is hosted on a server then web browsers go there to look at it. I think there's something called a DCPH client or something

    >knowledge in PHP, JavaScript and/or CSS

I know a little bit of java, I made a CSS file once to make ponychan look nicer

    >software specific shit like databases and other server-side software efchan currently depends on(I have since forgotten, but there's quite a few software running on the server doing their thing to make your shitposting possible on a daily basis)

I know that there's like software

Thank you for considering my application

I can only expand the quick reply box down vertically, but not horizontally.. Its like reading a news column.. Sucks when replying to something thats expanded across the screen or if ef is already in a small window.

    Any way of fixing that?

on another board we have reverse greentext
    >Greentext
    <orangetext

can we get pumpkin text? its just as readable as green text and is great for discussions since it can be used as a subcategory

not that we have great discussions here… but its less involved than formatting buttons and we could get some use out of it

pic shows examples in different theme colors.

Ponichan has that, but I wouldn't expect it to be a priority for implementation here unless someone competent in at a minimum CSS picks things up in earnest. Picking up most of ponichan's formatting enhancements would be nice, and also easy since they're running on a very close relative now.

well, if we could copypaste some features in.. namely format buttons, yea

but pumpkintext looks like an easy thing. Not important, but easier than any other thing probably.
